If you've counted, cut carbs, cleansed and tried every new plan that promised this time would be different, you're not alone. Most diets work for a few weeks. Then life happens, the rules become impossible to keep, and the weight and the guilt come back. That isn't a willpower problem. Restriction tends to backfire: it drives cravings, all-or-nothing thinking and the cycle of starting over.
How we help
Your registered dietitian starts with your history: the diets you've tried, what happened, and how food feels for you now. Together we rebuild a regular eating rhythm, bring back the foods you've been avoiding, and replace rigid rules with skills you can use anywhere, from a busy work week to a holiday dinner.
Our approach draws on intuitive eating: relearning your body's hunger and fullness cues, making peace with food, and eating in a way that feels satisfying instead of restrictive. It's a gentle, evidence-based alternative to dieting that still leaves room for your health goals.
We also work on the thinking that keeps the cycle going: labeling foods as good or bad, feeling guilty after eating, and trying to make up for it the next day. Small, steady changes add up to a way of eating that lasts.
What progress looks like
Progress isn't measured only by the scale. It looks like fewer cravings and less guilt, steadier energy, eating out without worrying about it, and trusting yourself around food again. If you have health goals, such as blood sugar or cholesterol, we build them into the plan without a return to strict dieting.
When to get more support
Chronic dieting recovery isn't eating disorder treatment. If you're concerned you may have an eating disorder, talk with your doctor, who can help you find specialized care.
Virtual or in person
Sessions are available by video call anywhere in Virginia, or in person in the Roanoke Valley and the greater Richmond area.
